Ulcerative Colitis Treatment Case:
A Miracle Created by a Teenager's Will to Heal
Going beyond symptom relief, fundamental treatment of ulcerative colitis proven by medical data
The Key to Treating Adolescent Ulcerative Colitis
Hello. This is HanStep Korean Medicine Clinic, which has been researching and treating ulcerative colitis since 2007. Adolescent patients are often brought to our clinic by their parents. However, because ulcerative colitis is not a short-term illness, the patient's own will to undergo treatment is more important than anything else.
The protagonist of this case, a teenage male student, visited us from Gyeongsang-do, and achieved successful treatment results through his strong determination to follow through with the treatment to the end.
Status at Initial Visit (March 2026)
- Diagnosis: Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at a general hospital
- Main Symptoms: Bloody stool, mucus in stool, tenesmus, diarrhea after eating spicy food
- Test Results: Calprotectin 533 (residual inflammation)
- Notes: Positive for occult blood despite taking 2g of Pentasa
Treatment Progress and Changes in Data
Rather than being misled by the simple disappearance of symptoms, we proceeded with treatment based on objective inflammation levels (calprotectin).
Introduction of Inflammation-Specific Prescription
Although symptoms improved, the calprotectin level temporarily rose to 1853. This was not a failure of treatment, but a signal that it was time to move to the next step. We immediately responded by changing to the inflammation-specific prescription C.
Full Normalization
After the calprotectin level dropped to 26 in late May, we gradually discontinued Pentasa. Ultimately, the patient successfully completed treatment while maintaining a normal level of less than 3.8.
Advice from HanStep Korean Medicine Clinic
The reason for this successful treatment is the patient's willpower. Ulcerative colitis is not merely a process of suppressing symptoms, but a process of identifying and removing the root causes one by one while monitoring inflammation levels. We encourage parents who are considering treatment for their children to communicate fully with them so that they can willingly agree to and participate in the treatment themselves.
